Committees:
Members may sign up to serve on any of the following active committees:
Activities:
Under the chairmanship of the Vice President, the Activities Committee
suggests activities to the Association for approval and coordinates
implementation of approved activities. The membership may submit
suggestions to the committee for presentation to the Association.
Archives: The Archives Committee
collects and maintains all official documents and permanent
records of the Association.
Audit: The Audit Committee
examines records of the financial secretary and treasurer, and
presents a full annual report to the membership.
Bylaws: The Bylaws Committee
reviews the bylaws annually and submits recommendations
for revisions as needed.
Education: The Education Committee
seeks opportunities to provide education (i.e., conferences put on by other
entities), plans educational activities, and designates members to
attend programs to gather information for the membership.
Membership: The Membership Committee
maintains a current list of all active members and their addresses,
recruits new members, disperses applications for membership, solicits
annual dues, and plans and implements activities for the purpose of
recruiting new members.
Nominating: The Nominating Committee
is apointed annually by the President and submits a slate of nominations
for new officers to the membership for vote by secret ballot.
Publication: The Publications Committee
develops and disseminates information on sickle cell
disease via print, audio and visual materials, writes press releases, and
helps advertise and promote the Association; also publishes quarterly newsletter.
Research: The Research Committee
seeks information regarding current and upcoming research activities
and provides such information to members. It serves as a resource for information
regarding issues such as research and funding, and maintains communication
between the Association and the National Institutes of Health research
branch.
Scholarship: The Scholarship Committee
establishes standards for scholarships and procedures for
selecting candidates for awards, then reviews scholarship applications
and assigns awards.
Duties and Responsibilities of Committee Chairpersons include:
submit quarterly reports to and
participate in quarterly communication with the
vice president.
solicit member participation,
and contact members bi-monthly.
develop specific goals for each committee.
To participate in a committee, a member must maintain active
member status and have a desire and commitment to serve, along
with a willingness to cooperate with the committee chairperson in
the development and implementation of committee goals.
